Legislative Alert Opposing DOMA
Dear Friends:
Hag Samayach - Happy Purim
We hope you are all having a wonderful
holiday. If you like to combine social justice with your holiday observance,
we urge you to take part in Sunday's phone banks to encourage legislative
calls in anticipation of this week's Constitutional Convention. Key issue of
concern: opposition to efforts to put discriminatory language in the
Massachusetts Constitution.
If it is your custom to give charity on Purim,
JALSA has many projects dependent on your support.

Equal Marriage - What
You Can Do Before Thursday, March 11
Thursday, March 11 is the next constitutional convention. State legislators
will once again be voting on whether to put discrimination in our state
constitution when they vote for or against amendments on same-sex marriage.
JALSA supports the decisions of the Supreme Judicial Court on the issue of
civil/secular marriage.
1. Phone Bank, Sunday, March 7, 12:00 noon until 9 pm.
Location: GLAD Office, at 30 Winter Street (near
Downtown Crossing and Park Street T stops).
Call Robyn at 617-256-4746 with any questions.
There are still seats available at the phones. Come and join us for a few
hours.
Call your friends in other Massachusetts communities; ask them to call their legislators
2) Legislative Calls: Call your state
representative and state senator, even if you've done it before.
Calls continue to pour into the State House from people opposing same-sex
marriage. We need to counter this opposition. Even if you have called
before, please call again before Thursday, March 11. You can go to
www.massequality.org. to find the
names of your legislators. Say, "I am a
constituent, and I oppose putting discrimination in the constitution. Civil
unions do not provide the same benefits as marriage. Please vote no on any
constitutional amendment that takes away the right of gay people to marry."
